Dr Shellie Morris AO named H.C. Coombs Creative Arts Fellow for 2024

We are pleased to announce the H.C. Coombs Creative Arts Fellow for 2024 is Dr Shellie Morris AO.

Dr Morris is an acclaimed singer-songwriter and a dedicated advocate for the preservation of Indigenous languages and cultures through music.

With a career spanning over two decades, Dr Morris has captivated audiences globally with her powerful voice and heartfelt performances. Her work is deeply rooted in her Yanyuwa and Wardaman heritage, and she has been instrumental in bringing Indigenous stories and languages to the forefront of contemporary music.

Dr Morris's contributions to the arts have been recognized with numerous awards and honors, including the NAIDOC Artist of the Year and the Northern Territory Australian of the Year. She is renowned not only for her musical talents but also for her commitment to community and cultural advocacy.

In her role as The H.C. Coombs Creative Arts Fellow, Dr Morris will continue her work in promoting cultural diversity and understanding through music. She will engage with students and the broader community, sharing her expertise and fostering a deeper appreciation for Indigenous music and culture.
